Goldberg & Associates is deeply committed to improving the understanding and treatment of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Disorder (NSSID) and Dissociative Disorders within the mental health community. It is important to understand that there are multiple scientific studies confirming a comorbid association between NSSID and dissociative disorders, as such they deserve equal attention. This initiative is in response to the concerns expressed by the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISST-D. ORG ), which has highlighted a significant gap in the education and training of mental health professionals in recognizing and treating dissociative disorders. Recognizing the importance of this issue for public welfare, Goldberg & Associates is determined to spearhead a movement to address this educational need, especially in light of the inclusion of NSSID and updates to Dissociative Identity Disorder in the DSM-5 in 2013.
In our effort to fill this gap, Goldberg & Associates is sponsoring various educational events and workshops. We are focusing on the promotion of both online courses and in-person workshops designed to deepen the understanding of NSSID and Dissociative Disorders among mental health practitioners. Our goal is to encourage the application of this specialized knowledge in clinical settings, enhancing the support provided to those affected by these conditions.
Aware of the financial barriers that can limit access to these crucial training opportunities, especially for professionals in non-profit organizations, we are undertaking sponsorship-fundraising activities. This effort aims to reduce the costs associated with advanced training, promoting greater involvement from the mental health community.
An integral part of our mission is to increase awareness about indirect self-injuring behaviors, particularly in the context of NSSID and Dissociative Disorders. We would suggest that behavior such as a child’s complete rejection of a non-abusive, loving parent, especially when there is a history of a positive parent-child relationship, can be indicative of, another clinical marker of, indirect self-injuring. It is imperative to explore these behaviors within the framework of NSSID as outlined in the DSM-5.
In summary, Goldberg & Associates is committed to illuminating the complexities surrounding NSSID and Dissociative Disorders, especially in high-conflict family environments. Through our sponsored educational initiatives and advocacy work, we aim to contribute to the development of effective treatment strategies, enhancing the mental health and well-being of affected children and families.
